What are brand communities and how do I join?

We believe shopping within brand-aligned communities creates a better, more informed resale experience.

Each Brand Community brings together members who share a love for the same designers or style concepts. Inside, you can sell, search for a piece (‘ISO’), trade, chat, and get real insights on sizing, fabrics, fit, styling and so much more.

How to join:

What can you do inside each brand community?

Sell List your items directly to an audience that understands and values the brand or aligns around the same style/fashion concept idea.

ISO (In Search Of) Post what you’re looking for and let our automated tool alert you immediately once your items becomes available.

Trade 
Did you get the wrong size, color or simply want to trade for other item? You can swap pieces with community members.

Chat 
Join private, brand-specific chats to ask questions, discuss styling, learn from other owners, or simply connect around shared taste. Note all chats remain visible only to members of that specific Brand Community.

Discussions rules - 
To preserve a thoughtful, brand-aligned environment:
- Keep discussions relevant to the brand and community.
- Be cordial and respectful.
- No dupes or counterfeit items — including suggestions or links.
- Avoid political, inflammatory, or off-topic content.
- No harassment, hate speech, or personal attacks.
- No screenshotting, sharing, or duplicating content outside the community.
- Violations may result in immediate removal.

How does ISO ("In Search Of") work?

In Search of (ISO) helps you find that one coveted item you’ve been searching for.

To add an ISO, navigate to the ISO section inside your chosen brand community.

Search for the item you are looking for, and select the sizes you would consider. If the item is not in our database, you can manually add the details.

Your request will appear under the community’s ISO board, making it easy for others to spot and share the exact piece you want.

If anyone lists an item that matches your ISO, you’ll be immediately notified via email so you can claim it first.

How do trades work?

The Trade feature is available only to approved members within each brand community.

To post a trade, select an item from your wardrobe (see wardrobe digitization), then add details about the color or sizes you are looking to trade for. Users can then comment on your posting.

Once you agree on a trade, please email trades@futurereference.xyz with a link to the trade posting. We will send both members a link to checkout for the shipping label.

Once you pay, shipping labels are generated automatically for each item. F|R does not currently charge any additional fees for trades.

Once paid, please ship your trade within 3 days.

Note: This is an early testing feature designed to help pieces circulate within the community at minimal cost. If the operational cost of managing trade transactions increases meaningfully, we may adjust the feature to ensure long-term fairness and sustainability. You’ll always be notified of any changes in advance.

If you are found to be abusing trades, i.e. paying for a label and never sending your item, you will be banned from the platform.

Selling

How to sell via Future Reference.
How do I list an item with Future Reference?

Selling on Future Reference is simple and seamless. We auto-generate a listing description that blends your condition notes with verified item details, including materials, fit, and key features. You can edit anytime, but we make sure your listing is polished from the start.

To list an item:
1. Select an item from your wardrobe, search our database of over 100k items, or add the details manually.
2. Condition: Add details about the condition of the item, calling out any rips, tears or stains.
3. Price: Set your price. You can use our recommendation and references to past sales as a guide.

To sell, you will need a return address on file in order to generate any shipping label.

Listings will then be reviewed. Once reviewed, your listing will go live on Future Reference as well as other marketplaces.

Helpful tips:

  • Ensure the photos accurately represent the condition of the item. If there are any tears, stains, or visible wear, please document them. This prevents items from being returned later, per the Future Reference Experience Guarantee.
  • Follow our photo guidelines, and make sure to include photos of the tags for clothing items. This helps us verify authenticity, and helps your items sell faster.
Can I sell any brand?

For brands with open communities inside Future Reference, all items from those brands will be immediately listed and made available for purchase across the platform.

With Future Reference you can buy and sell fashion, jewelry and accessories from hundreds of the top luxury, contemporary, and ready to wear brands. You can find a full list of our supported brands here. We accept women's and men's fashion.

You're welcome to add any item to your personal Wardrobe Archive. However, we selectively manage listings based on brand quality and long-term resale value. We do not accept fast fashion, and items outside our supported brand list may not be cross-listed. This ensures that buyers consistently discover high-quality, brand-aligned pieces — and that your items are positioned where they will perform best.

I don't see my listing on Future Reference. Why is that?

We show a curated selection of items available for sale on Future Reference. Not all items may be shown. We primarily focus on items from brands with open communities and any brands from the current list.

Would you like another brand to be featured? Click the Feedback link in the upper right hand corner to submit a brand.

How do offers work?

If you receive an offer on a specific platform, we will share that with you within Future Reference. Offers take into account each platform's specific fees, so the offer will be the net amount you make, before Future Reference's management fee. 

What happens when my item sells?

If your item sells on Future Reference, we will send you a label to ship directly to the ubyer. Please always ship within 3 days. If an item takes over 7 days to ship, your sale is eligible to be canceled.

3 days after the item is delivered or the item is approved by the buyer (whichever comes first), your earnings will be available to withdraw.

How do fees work?
  • Future Reference charges a 5% platform fee + 3% payment processing fee, based on your sale price. For example, if you sold an item for $100, we will take a $5 platform fee + $3 for payment processing.
  • This fee is deducted from your earnings automatically.


Note: The current 5% platform fee is an introductory rate. Our standard commission will be 10% and may apply at a later stage.You’ll always be notified before any changes take effect.

How does cross-listing work?

For additional boost, use F|R’s cross-listing automatically list your item across top marketplaces, helping it sell faster and for the best price.

We act as a proxy between other marketplaces. Tasks we handle for you:

- Cross-listing to maximize visibility
- Sharing
- Monitoring incoming offers and sharing them with you via Future Reference
- Fielding basic questions
- Sharing insights on pricing and demand
- Handle customer service inquiries

What marketplaces do you cross-list on?

What does 'open to offers' mean?

If you aren't sure about listing a piece in your wardrobe, you can opt in to 'open to offers'. This allows us to post your piece to our resale network to field potential offers. We won't sell without your approval, but it allows you to see if your piece will sell and for how much.

You can set 'open to offers' by click on an item in your wardrobe and enabling the 'open to offers' toggle.

Please only opt in to 'open to offers' if your piece is in excellent used condition or NWT.

If you decide you want to sell your item, we do recommend creating a listing and setting a price, as items with accurate pricing do sell faster.

How do I withdraw my earnings?

You can withdraw your earnings from Future Reference anytime for free. Link your bank account via Stripe to receive payouts.

Future Reference partners with Stripe for payouts. To link a bank account:
1. Go to Manage Account > Payments & Addresses
2. Add a bank account
3. You will be taken to a Future Reference x Stripe portal where you can securely enter your personal and bank information.
4. After completing the Stripe setup, you will be taken back to Future Reference and are ready to sell.

Does Future Reference allow for returns?

No, sellers cannot accept returns at this time. However, every sale is held to our Future Reference’s Experience Guarantee.

If an item is found to be counterfeit or does not match the listing description, we will facilitate the return the item to you and will charge a fee of $25 for reverse logistics. Repeated violation of our Experience Guarantee will result in removal from the platform.

What if there is an issue with my item?

Please make sure listings accurately represent the condition of your item.

If an item is deemed incorrectly described and 'returned to seller', we will facilitate the return of the item to you. Each return will incur a $25 management fee.

Wardrobe Digitization

How do I digitize my wardrobe?

We make it  easy to add items from your actual closet to your digital wardrobe.

Gmail Sync - Import items in one click by linking your Gmail. We will pull in any purchases from our supported merchants and vendors.

Currently we only support Gmail linking. If you would like to beta another platform, send us a note at support@futurereference.xyz.

URL Upload - If we miss an item, you can import it using our link upload. To do so go to Wardrobe > Add an Item > Import the Link > Select Size > Add to Wardrobe.

The Future Reference Chrome Extension - Add items as you shop, and get estimated resale values so you know your ROI before you buy.

Database search - Search over 500k items already in our database.

Manual upload - If needed, you can always manually add item details. We try to use AI to make the process as quick as possible.

Any items added outside of email sync can be verified by sending the receipt to uploads@futurereference.xyz.

Automatically importing items via Gmail Sync

Gmail sync is the easiest way to import your past purchases and ensure future purchases are synced to your wardrobe. Future Reference will detect eligible items from your email receipts and automatically collect product details including photos, purchase price, retailer, and more from 75+ retailers and 1500+ brands. Watch your wardrobe value grow in real time as items sync and estimates are generated.

When you initially sync your Gmail, we import purchases from the past 5 years, automatically removing any returns we can identify. If you see any items that you no longer own or want to remove from your wardrobe, you can do so after importing.

Your privacy is important to us. We only look at email receipts from our supported brands and merchants, and we do not store any personally identifiable information beyond what is needed to import product details.

Here’s how to link your Gmail to your Future Reference account at any time:

1. Go to the Profile icon in the upper right hand corner and select Manage Account. Then go to My Profile.
2. Click Link Account under Synchronized Email Addresses, then follow the instructions provided by Google to link your account.
3. You can return to your wardrobe, and items will begin to import. This process can take up to 15 minutes.

Connecting more than one Gmail account

If you have more than one Gmail account that contains receipts, you can link an additional email to import and verify items.

To do so, go to your Profile in the upper right hand corner.
Go to Manage Account.
Scroll to the section 'Synchronized emails'.
Select Link Account.
Select the Gmail account you wish to link and complete Google's security questions.

Your new items may take a few minutes to import.

How does Future Reference protect my privacy with Gmail? 

Your privacy is incredibly important to us. Our app is certified by Google for data handling, encryption and privacy.

First, we only scan for and look at email receipts from our supported brands and merchants. We do not read or index other emails.

When looking at receipts, we only look for relevant product information, and we do not store any personally identifiable information beyond what is needed to import product details.

Adding an item via URL

If we miss an item, you can submit a link directly! Simply,

1. Find your item online, copy the URL and paste it into the form.
2. Your item will either automatically import, or you may be given a warning that the website is not yet supported.
3. If the item does import, click into the item details to save your size.

If the item does not import, we'll manually review and add it for you within 24 hours.

Note: Items manually added will not get an Verification tag when they are resold. To get the Verification tag, you must email us the receipt to link to your Wardrobe.

Forwarding receipts to verify ownership of items uploaded via URL import

Verified items sell faster and build marketplace trust. 'Verification' means that the digital receipt has been verified to match the listing by the Future Reference team. Digital receipts are the best proxy for ownership, sometimes better than physical authentication.

To verify your item either
1. Link your gmail and items will be automatically verified
2. Upload an item via URL and then forward the digital receipt to uploads@futurereference.xyz

When you verify via forwarding, you'll receive an email back from support@futurereference.xyz when your item has been verified. At that point you'll also see a badge in your wardrobe and on any future listings.

What should I do if a site isn't supported?

If your favorite brand is not supported, be sure to "Give Feedback" in the app so that we can work to add it to our list of partners.

Where do your estimated resale values come from?

Our resale values are estimates based on publicly available data, and other inputs like the age and condition of the item. We may not have resale values for all brands. If you have feedback on any of our estimates, please submit feedback in the upper right hand corner of the app.

Our promise to buyers

We are committed to creating a trustworthy community. Thus, we have a no tolerance policy for counterfeit items. If a seller sells an item that is to be determined inauthentic, they will be removed from the platform.

Refund Policy
When you make a purchase via a Future Reference seller, we don't release payment to the seller until you tell us you've received your order as described. You have 3 days after delivery to inform us if the item has been misrepresented by reporting the problem in the Future Reference app or website with supporting photos. If we verify your claim, we'll send you a label to return the order to the seller and refund your payment. All returns must be shipped back within 7 days of approval to be eligible for a refund.

What is covered
If any of the following pertain to your order, please report the problem in the Future Reference app or website immediately:

Undisclosed damage
Incorrect or missing item
Item not as described
Item is not authentic

If no claim is made within 3 days of delivery, payment will be automatically released to the seller. Once payment has been released, all sales are final and no refunds will be provided.

What is not covered

Item does not fit / changed mind –
If the item is just not your style or does not fit you, we unfortunately cannot accept a return. You can always re-list the item on Future Reference.

Trades and offline transactions – Future Reference does not cover trades or transactions completed off of our platform. When payment for the full value of items is not exchanged through Future Reference, we cannot guarantee that both parties will ship and transact as promised. You bear all risks associated with any such transactions, and may be removed from the platform if repeated behavior.

Referrals

Earn fee-free sales by inviting your friends to Future Reference.
What is the Future Reference referral program?

The Future Reference referral program allows you to share the benefits of our platform with friends while earning rewards. When you refer a friend to Future Reference who lists their first item, both you and your friend will earn a fee-free sale credit, meaning you'll keep 100% of your earnings on one sale instead of paying our standard 10% management fee.

How do I refer friends to Future Reference?

It's simple! Share your unique invitation link with friends through text, email, or social media. You can copy your personalized link directly from your account menu.

Is there a limit to how many people I can refer?

No, there are no referral limits. You can refer as many friends as you want and earn one fee-free sale for each friend who signs up and lists their first item.

When do my friends need to list an item to qualify for the reward?

Your friends need to sign up using your referral link and list their first item. There's no specific time frame, but the sooner they list, the sooner both of you can enjoy your rewards.

What exactly is a "fee-free sale"?

A fee-free sale means you won't pay the standard 10% Future Reference management fee on one of your sales. For example, if you sell an item for $200, you'll keep the full $200 instead of $180.

Do my fee-free sale credits expire?

No, your fee-free sale credits don't expire and are applied automatically to your next sale. They'll remain in your account until you use them.

What if my friend already has a Future Reference account?

The referral program applies to new users only. If your friend already has an account, they won't be eligible for the referral reward.

My friend signed up but I didn't get credit. What should I do?

Make sure your friend used your unique referral link when signing up. If they did and you still haven't received credit, please contact our support team at support@futurereference.xyz.

How does Future Reference use my data?

Profile Information
In order to create an account, you may choose to share some basic information such as your name, address, and email. We use this information to provide our services and experience, including our digital wardrobe. Future Reference does not sell any of your personal information. Affiliate links make it possible to offer our services to you at no charge.

Your data is not for sale—we keep your data private at every stage in the browsing process. For more information about how we collect and use data, please visit our Privacy Policy.

Purchase Information
In order to provide estimated resale values, we collect basic item information: price, brand, item name, color, and merchant. Future Reference only collects data for sites supported sites and merchants..

Product Improvements
We collect limited information around how you interact with the Chrome Extension and web app in order to make sure everything is working correctly, and inform how to best improve our experience.

What do I do if I forgot my password?

You can reset your password from the Login page by clicking the "Forgot Your Password" link located underneath the "Sign In" button. You will receive an email that will prompt you to create a new password.
